Take away all the marketing, take away all the buzz, let’s look at each iPhone Apple sells currently and ask, for most people’s usage, what iPhone do they really need?
Let’s break it down: A brand new iPhone 8Plus with its top storage capacity is $949. An iPhone 6s Plus at its top capacity is $649, a $300 difference for basically the same phone, the same screen, roughly the same performance. All the other differences are incremental. Are they worth the extra $300? That’s up to you, but for the average user, I’d say no.

If you do the math with the iPhone X, it gets even more ridiculous, the money gap spreading to $500 between the two phones at their highest capacities.

But the average person is likely not going to buy the 256GB iphone X. The average buyer wants what I discussed before: a phone that does all the basic stuff I need it to do and does it without falling apart.
