Looking for scratch and impact resistant protection for both the front and back of your new iPhone 7 Plus? RhinoShield, best known for their super drop protective CrashGuard bumper and PlayProof and SolidSuit cases, has an impact protective screen protector and back protector for you! Promising up to 5 times the impact protection of a normal screen protector, these protective films are perfect for use with bumper cases such as RhinoShield’s CrashGuard bumper, but can also be used with regular cases as well. And although they work well as a team, they can be purchased separately.
The screen protector is easy to apply. Bubbles are few and quite easy to remove. Once on, it has a nicely case compatible fit and worked with all the cases I tried it with: Apple Silicone Case, OtterBox Symmetry, the Speck Presidio Line, Ballistic Jewel, Incipio Octane, and of course the RhinoShield CrashGuard Bumper. Optical clarity is excellent, there is no issue with 3D Touch, and it feels smooth under the fingers. The only area where it falls short is in its oleophobic coating, which is not as good as that of a good tempered glass screen protector or your iPhone’s glass screen itself. Therefore, like all plastic screen protectors, it has more of an issue with smearing and fingerprints.
The back protector ( the same as the screen protector above) is quite a bit harder to install than the screen protector: and bubbles are much more numerous and somewhat time consuming to remove. There is also a bit of micro hazing that slowing dissipates with rubbing and time. It looks pretty rough when you first install it, but it does definitely improve. In addition, like the screen protector, it does have an issue with fingerprints and smudges. Interestingly, at least on the matte black iPhone, the apple symbol on the back of the phone gets a fun outline around it. I think it looks good, but it might not be to everyone’s tastes.
Conclusion: Overall, these are solid products. I love the fact that they provide significantly enhanced protection for my iPhone’s back as well as its screen. As someone who hates smearing, I wish they had a better oleophobic coating, but there are tradeoffs everywhere, I guess.
