If it’s your first time here, this is where I share my thoughts, feedback on tech items or gadgets that I use or pique my interest.

I have been using my smartphone for filming since I restarted this channel and most of the time I have my smartphone lenses on. This would require me to keep removing my mobile case as often smartphone lenses are designed to sit directly on top of your phone’s camera, else you’ll get some distortion or noise on your video or photo.

This made me look for a better alternative of not using any mobile phone case but still have basic protection. For this task, I turned to dBrand and found LuphieCases.

I have been using dBrand films for more than 2 years now on my XPS15 and it still looks fantastic. When I was using my laptop I realized it was a good alternative for protecting the glass finish of my S8+.
dBrand provides high quality vinyl films for disguising your gadgets. You can choose form multitude of colors and designs on their website for your laptop, ipad, tablets, etc.
For my Samsung s8+, I chose their new dragon-skin finish in black, with my camera perimeter as red. This set costs less than $11.00 with free shipping. Their packaging arrives in an artistic envelope that includes the vinyl skins you purchased and a wiping cloth. Installing it is pretty straight forward, just make sure you clean your smartphone first, before applying it.

Scratch protection for the back is now in place, now what about the sides. I need to find some protection for the sides. I went to amazon and searched for some bumper cases, and almost given up because majority would always come with some sort of back case protection.
Then LuphieCase popped up on my search results. It’s an aluminium bumper case for less than $14.00 which was exactly what I was looking for. I was not familiar with the brand, but given that it described to be what I needed, I made the purchase.
It’s CNC or computer cut and powder coated to give out the black or different color it offers. Having received my order, I can also see that on the inner part of the bumper case, there is an attempt of putting some slim foaming. This would touch the sides of your smartphone to add on bumping protection. Applying it is simple, disassemble the frame by removing the left side, align the majority of the frame and fit your smartphone in, then close it by fastening the left side back.
Now I don’t know if these small screws are stainless, but I hope so as the S8+ is water resistant to a certain degree.
The Luphie bumper case is well-built, edges are filed and smooth, so there’s no risk of cutting yourself. You do have to be careful in aligning when installing it so that you don’t scrape your smartphone. It is also pretty lightweight, but still feels solid enough to take on the daily beating and occasional small drops.

With the 2 simple items, I now have a minimalist approach in protecting my smartphone and use my lenses without any need to remove any phone case. I am able to mount it to my Osmo Mobile 2 too!
