What’s the best type of screen protector for the iPhone XS? It’s a 3D Edge-to-Edge, tempered glass screen protector. The keyword in the product name is 3D. Not 2.5D, Not just Edge to Edge, it has to be 3D Edge to Edge.

BUT if you’re a person who likes ultra-thin cases, skins or letting your iPhone go eu-natural, you’d want to go with a 2.5D, normal screen protector.

I’ve come to this conclusion after using several screen protectors on the iPhone X over the last several weeks.

So why has my recommendations for the iPhone X changed over the 8? With previous iPhone’s there was a bezel so your fingers never spent a lot of time along the edges of the screen. When it came to screen protectors, your finger never really had to do anything with the edge except to access multi-tasking. This is not the case for the iPhone X as you'll spend a lot more time swiping along the edge of your iPhone X.

--- Normal Screen Protectors ---

These screen protectors only cover the areas of the screen that light up. Depending on the product that you get, some aren't going to fully cover the screen and some will.

If you’ve watched my previous videos, you’ll know that I’m fond of the the Rhinoshield Impact Protection and Patchworks ITG Silicate glass but for the iPhone X, I’m not as drawn to them because of the noticeable edges. These screen protectors, are quite thick and almost cover the entire OLED screen. These two characteristics will increase how noticeable the edges are with al the gesturing that you will do. As you can see in the video, the edges of the screen protector are going to get annoying over time.

The Belkin Invisible Glass ultra is another product that will into this category. It may be close to $50 dollars after tax but you'll get a product that extends past the touchable area of the iPhone, it will be thin and the rounded corners won't be *that noticeable.

--- 2.5D Edge-to-Edge screen protectors ---

I personally consider any product that doesn't follow the curve of the iPhone's edge a 2.5D Edge-to-Edge screen protector. Most screen protectors on Amazon will fall into this category. Over the last few weeks, I've used cheaper products from Bulesk, Olixar and ESR. The ESR one worked the best but had the worst coverage for an Edge-to-Edge screen protector.

With everything considered, the gestures on the iPhone X worked quite well with every one of these products. I do have a couple of gripes with these screen protectors though.

First of all, dust will collect along the edges of the screen protector. Second of all, dusts and debris will collect along the TruDepth camera area.

Another problem that creeps up with any edge to edge screen protector is the fit with other cases. I get a lot of “will this screen protector fit with this case” and the answer is never simple. It really depends on the install. If you watch the video, you'll see how being off by 0.5mm will make certain cases from Spigen fail with the screen protector while other's do not.

--- 3D Edge-to-Edge screen protectors ---

From my perspective, a true 3D Edge-to-Edge screen protector will follow the curve the iPhone EXACTLY. I initially thought that the ESR one was going to be a 3D product but as you can see in the video it is not.

Out of all the screen protectors I found for the iPhone X, the only product that meet my criteria was the Patchworks 3D cover. This product was the BEST screen protector out of the batch that I used. I barely felt the edge of product.

If you install a screen protector perfectly, you most likely won't have an issue with most cases. This screen protector was used in my last Spigen case video and I don't think I had any issues with the fit.
